Class of 1977, Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom was born in the UK in the town of Canterbury. The love for Cinema comes when he was a kid: at just sixteen, he moves to London where he studies Theater and wins a scholarship to enroll in the British American Drama Academy.
Bloom debuts on TV in a few episodes of the serial Casualty and, in 1997, is cast in the biographic Wilde. Immediately after the shooting, he enters the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The real success arrives in 2001, when Director Peter Jackson chooses him to play Legolas in The Lord of the Rings films (2001-2003), a character he will interpret again in the next trilogy of The Hobbit in 2014. He is an international star now and Bloom becomes one of the world’s most famous actors.
The definitive accomplishment arrives in 2003, when he becomes pirate Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean saga alongside Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley. He acts in other visually striking films, from Troy (2004), where he plays Paride next to Achilles, Brad Pitt, to Kingdom of Heaven (2005), directed by Ridley Scott.
In 2017, once again he plays the role of Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean – Salazar’s Revenge, the fifth chapter of the Disney saga.
Despite the great success as a movie actor, Bloom’s career progresses well in Theatre: his performance in the Broadway Musical Romeo and Juliet, directed by David Leveaux (2014) was much appreciated
In his private life, after breaking up with Kate Bosworth, Bloom meets supermodel Miranda Kerr, who he married in 2010 in a top-secret ceremony. A year later, in January 2011 their son Flynn was born, but the couple announces their separation in 2013. Since February 2016 to March 2017 Orlando Bloom is linked to singer Katy Perry.
Besides being a brilliant actor, Orlando Bloom is also socially involved: he is a UNICEF Ambassador and in 2015, he received the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award.
On the occasion of his 40th birthday, we celebrate him in a gallery dedicated to his career and style.
