How far can eclecticism go? The answer comes from the capital of Georgia where one of the most interesting niche fashion weeks in the industry has been held for four years. From Tbilisi catwalks, the most interesting names among influencers, socialites and buyers’ portfolios are now emerging. In the spotlight is Materiél, a brand conceived by Fashion House Materia, a historic textile manufacturer founded in 1949 which has recruited the most visionary designers to shape hybrid and polarizing collections. People like to dare, without half measures.
The last two collections were shaped by the creativity of Aleksandre Akhalkatsishvili and Lado Bokuchava. Both graduates from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, they conveyed the cornerstones of their style to Matériel new collection, weaving them to give birth to something spurious, unexpected, disruptive and at the same time wardrobe-friendly. Each designer has infused a personal approach in the collection: the Bokuchava’s love for the seventies vintage mood and Akhalkatsishvili’s fixation with high waistlines and boleros have created a summer collection marked by tailoring, without forgetting the heritage of the company, which historically produced military uniforms for the army.
Materiél collections are available in a limited selection of stores around the world, including Rinascente.
