Dream holidays: must-see destinations for 2019
5 last-minute destinations away from clichés
Is it almost time for the summer holidays? If you haven’t yet decided where to go, don’t panic. Italy is a country full of magnificent places. For those who dream of traveling with friends, here are three exclusive destinations for a fun-filled holiday where the sea is Maldivian blue and you can relax in luxurious beach resorts, then at sunset the night turns into music.
Maldive Del Salento
In the Ionic Coast of Salento

The Salento coast overlooking the Mediterranean is like an emerald necklace: every bay, tower, marine offers a sparkling clear sea, along a vast horizon where the sun sets. Do some beach hopping at sunset, among good music, cocktails and great relaxation. From Nardò with Santa Caterina beach and the many bars and lounges open until late at night: twinkling light trimmed platforms overlooking the sea, an excellent glass of Negramaro rosé waves crashing on the rocks in the background. Further down, in Gallipoli, during the day, head to the most exclusive Baia Verde resorts and, in the evening, explore the old town for a local shellfish dinner. If you are looking for a stunning sea, visit the Maldives of Salento, between Torre Pali and Torre Vado, where the water is crystal clear. Until mid-July, don’t miss the readings and meetings with the Salento Book Festival authors in various villages, from Galatone to Corigliano, where you can leisurely choose your beach readings.

Between Molise and Gargano

Molise does not exist according to an urban legend, a divertissement that proliferates on the Internet. The coast around Termoli is the ideal destination to decompress the stress accumulated during the year and visit its historic center. From here, you can set sail to the Tremiti Islands in search of freedom, hair in the wind and picturesque corners for your snaps. For the most exclusive nightlife, move towards the Gargano, between Vieste and Peschici. Find a typical masseria farmhouse and then indulge in some forest therapy in the enchantment of the Umbra Forest or take kitesurfing lessons at the Pirola beach (Spiaggia di Scialmarino): getting carried away by the wind while floating on the waves is an activity that tempers the body and mind. In July, don’t miss the Festival of Colours in Mattinata – July 28-30 – inspired by the Indian Holi Festival.

Forte Dei Marmi
From Versilia to Lucca

The soundtrack of your summer moments plays in the long Versilia nights, which boast a high concentration of iconic clubs between Forte dei Marmi, Marina di Pietrasanta and Viareggio. Seventeen kilometers of fun that begins at sunset, featuring DJ sets, VIP lounges and lists. The music continues at the Lucca Summer Festival until July 29, with performances by Elton John, Sting, Ennio Morricone, Calcutta, Janelle Monae, Giorgia, De Gregori, Noemi and many other big names in the international scene. If you are an opera lover, Torre del Lago Puccini will host the Puccini Festival from July 12, where every year even the most exclusive culture becomes pleasantly inclusive. At dawn the next day, long sandy beaches, Balinese sun lounges of exquisitely retro beach front resorts, that vintage glamour of Versilia that was, still, and we hopefully always will be.
